TEACHING: PAINFUL GIFT!

Alone in a very busy restaurant, a child’s smile caught my attention. In his innocent eyes, I see a bright future. As I was astonished, I binged on writing solutions to the recent social problem of today while waiting for my orders to be served.

The Philippine government is now hammering out a bill which will later on becomes a law increasing the benefits of the teachers.
However, many have raised their eyebrows as to when this would take effect.

Teachers are basically molding the future leaders of the country. These teachers deserve the best benefits. However, contrary to everybody’s expectation, the leaders of today have been blinded with greediness.
These leaders, although not all, only want power and wealth. Corruption becomes the malady of the government which is hard to heal. The leaders of this millennium becomes oblivious of the lesson that were taught by their teachers.

The debacle that needs to be fought today is on how to educate the learners of the importance of “character” extensively in the classroom. The Department of Education (DepEd) has to do it with sustainability. If not, the people in the DepEd will only rub salt into the deep wounds that have yet to be healed.

However, there is still a future. A future that will steal the limelight of today’s problem. If the DepEd cannot ease the problem in its entirety, each teacher has to solve or at least must think on how to minimize the same. Teachers are the key to uplift the educational system of today with limited resources. A teacher should mold some future leaders with forty (40) or sixty (60) students in the classroom with resourcefulness.
Teaching could be a painful gift but the teachers need to step up. As unsung heroes, they could help a future Philippines: a progressive country with students of good virtues. Therefore, teachers should be given a very competitive salary than to any other professions.

While writing this, the waiter arrived and he put my orders on the table. When I was about to eat, I saw a parent approaching the entrance door of the restaurant with his three children. I said to myself, “I must build a better future for the children. I should be a teacher!”
