PHESST-LAWYER: A BAR EXAMINATION GUIDE

Image
I n the Philippines, the month of November is the BAR EXAM Month. So, I would like to share with you how I prepared for the Bar Exam. This guide has an acronym, PHESST-LAWYER . Take time to read because this guide might help you.  Act like a Priest – Every day you should have to pray before anything else. I am a Roman Catholic and I have to act like a real one. Be close to God every day. Do not decide without consulting the best consultant, God. Taking the Bar examination is one way to get closer to God. Depression because of pressure will be eased. Unfortunately, the pressure is inevitable but you have to bow down to your master. ACT LIKE A PRIEST Act like a Happy Shopper - When I took the Bar Exam, this pace was very interesting yet very luxurious. I presumed that you know the books that you will use for the review of the bar exam. You should know what books you will buy for the eight subjects, you should buy notebooks for you to write, you should buy markers to ...

THE CROSS

Image
I wrote this chapter during Good Friday. My younger brother and I went to church at 3 PM and I was honestly amazed of the rituals or let us say the procedure of the liturgical celebration. It was my first time for my entire 27 years in this world to experience the said celebration. I was so shocked! Why? Because it was the first time that I attended a celebration where there was no entrance song. It started when everybody kneels. When the priests, the lay ministers, the psalmists, and the knights of the altar reached at the altar, they sat, then bent and kissed the floor for a minute or two. I also observed that the center of the celebration is the cross, giving respect with the cross as a symbol of our salvation.         I was reminded with the cross of our LORD.  Indeed the cross that was carried by Jesus Christ was too heavy. I imagine if I was the one carrying that load I might say, “Oh, no!!!” One, two , three or four steps… I am sure...

EVEN IN THE DARKEST MOMENTS

Image
W e have started to learn to love every step of what we want to do. We know that God is speaking to us as if He is beside us. That is actually the truth! GOD is with us because He loves us!!! This Chapter will bring you to another experience. This experience really teaches me to stick with the LORD. Indeed, every experience has a lesson. Why? After the whole first semester of being a second year law student, words of the Lord are being so clear to me. Not just during the mass but during the whole week. He said:   “I serve to show my love for you. I suffer because I love you and I die because of my love for you. But where are you? You’ve been too far away from Me. I called you but you did not listen. I protected you but you never protected yourself. I ask you to be righteous but you disobey. And you ask, “Why are you forsaken me? “                 Because of these words that are too clear for me as ...

TREK WITH HIM

Image
W e have learned from the previous chapter that in whatever we do, we should scrutinize every experience by asking what does the Lord want me to do in such situation? As we continue, I will bring you to my other experience with the LORD. This is about a trek during my law school days. I consider this as very important activity that happened in my life. August 9, 2009 is a date to consider that I made myself proud. I led the group to praying not in the prayer meeting, not in the church, not in a small group discussion, not in a seminar, not in my own prayer time but in an activity with my fellow law classmates for a very heartbreaking, exciting yet breathtaking ala survivor nature trekking… Yes! This is not an uncomfortable harness that shackles us into hard labor…This is experiencing God’s faithfulness through a once in lifetime activity… Imagine! I was the one chosen by the majority of my classmates to lead the group in prayer. This is really a good opportunity to bring people...

SURRENDER

Image
SCRUTINIZE OURSELVES WHEREVER WE GO, WHATEVER WE DO I t’s good to surrender to the Lord whatever plans undone during the day! There are many things as planned for a day that we could not accomplish. We thought a whole day is enough for our 24-hour activities. But little we did not know that a day or two will just be too short for a purpose! In my case, examinations are fast approaching yet the more I read, the more that I become confused and nervous. A lot of temptations bothered us and many distractions beleaguered our minds to accomplish things. Honestly, some task could not be done alone. We need more power to quench the force of stressed. We become weak and little by little we could run out of oxygen.  We became stressed to find the answer. For me, I found the answer by attending a mass.   “I will give you rest!”, says the LORD in my meditation during the mass. He added, “Come to me those who are laden, those who are weak, those who have crises personally, emotion...

AIM HIGH DESPITE FAILURES

AIM HIGH DESPITE FAILURES W ith Christ nothing is impossible! D uring my elementary years, I kept on dreaming of academic award or medals. But sad to say, I wasn’t able to receive at least one. But that dream never ends there. This chapter will lead you to aim high despite failures. This will help you not to be destructed even we are already injured. Yes, failing of something you want to achieve really hurts. We feel embarrassed by the loudest “boooooooos” of others. But always remember, “ Everyone experiences failure ”. However, individual reactions differ from another. Others stop achieving their dreams but only few continues to work hard and believe for a second, a third, a fourth, a fifth or and so on chances.   During my elementary days, I do not have failing grades. However, when all elementary Grade-Six pupils are required to take the National Elementary Achievement Test by the Department of Education I failed. A few days later I took another examination, th...

PASSING THE BAR

Image
I Trust…             I Prayed…                         I Studied…                                     I Passed it!!! Passing the bar examination for me is a tough battle. You cannot take the Bar examination unless you finished the Four (4) year course of Bachelor of Laws or the Juris Doctor. In my case, I am a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education (BSAgEd) major in Teaching Agriculture in Elementary Schools at Leyte State University now known as the Visayas State University at Visca, Baybay, Leyte. I did not have a very wide background in the Laws of the Republic of the Philippines. I remember that I only studied th...
